Paul Joyce has been composing, recording and performing music for over 22 years. He has turned what began as a love of music into a career, not only as a composer, but as a performer as well. Paul's first musical release was as a bass player with the Long Island hardcore band Scapegrace. "PLead" was printed on 7" vinyl and according to one fan, it was an "insane 7in." Paul has also released full length albums playing guitar with bands
such as
Compression and
Dark Water Transit, and can currently be found
performing locally with the band
Il Culo. As far as composing and recording music, Paul began cutting his teeth, so to speak, with 4-track tape machines in early 1990. He stayed with the technology longer than his peers, giving him a sense of nuance and, in a time when drag and drop software has made editing simpler, a respect for modern recording technology that others may lack. While Paul had always taken interest in music made for film, it was his love of Goblin's score for Dawn of the Dead that inspired him to release an album consisting of covers from that very soundtrack. These covers were produced with the help of his band, Dark Water Transit and in total utilized nine musicians. Instruments used included cello, violin, alto and baritone sax, keyboards and various percussion instruments. Paul himself performed all guitar and bass for the album, as well as some keyboard, percussion and special effects. Paul has since gone on to compose for such organizations as Animal Planet, the National Aquarium of Baltimore and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He has also supplied music for short films as well as commercials for various regional businesses. (a more compete listing can be found in the Resume section) Additionally, besides supplying the entire score for the feature film Isle of the Damned, Paul provided voice work and assisted in editing the film. The soundtrack was an ambitious project that proved worthwhile as it received many positive reviews and has helped boost interest in the film. Paul produces his music in house, allowing him to be more available and in touch with his clients. He currently resides with his family in Baltimore, Maryland. |
